Beaver Lake Community

Tansi! Welcome to Beaver Lake Cree Nation, a proud and friendly First Nation community located in north eastern Alberta, in the heart of the boreal forest and on the shores of scenic Beaver Lake. We are home to approximately 440 citizens, with another 700 Band Members residing off-reserve.

As a forward-thinking Nehiyaw Nation, Beaver Lake strives to deliver programs and services that facilitate a healthy, strong, and vibrant community while promoting physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.We are progressing towards a goal of economic sovereignty and enhanced internal capacity.

Beaver Lake Cree Nation has its own K-12school, an early learning and child care centre, a dedicated health centre, and an addictions treatment centre operating since 1984 and providing a unique, holistically-driven wellness program.

We run a recreation program and our two community centres are host to a large number of events. Beaver Lake’s annual Pow Wow is one of the largest in the area, attracting more than 450 competitors from across Canada and the U.S.

Our Elders Society has as its primary aim the transference of traditional knowledge to our younger generations in an effort to preserve our cultural heritage, and meet monthly in an advisory capacity to the Nations’ Chief and Council.

The community owns and operates an 88-head Buffalo Ranch, the Busy Beaver, a convenience store with gas pumps, and Spruce Point Resort and Campground. It has recently established a community fruit and berry orchard at AmiskCommunity School, which will provide produce for Beaver Lake citizens and educational opportunities for school children.
